For those unfamiliar with the Denver Oyster, the Racing Series started in Denver in 2003. The Oyster name originated in Denver from Rocky Mountain Oysters (a novelty dish popular in the west which includes a “special” part of the bull) and the race was dubbed “a Rocky Mountain ball buster.” The unique name was so well received they kept it as the event grew to other cities. And the rest is history … Half race, half scavenger hunt activities include running, biking, climbing, paddling, clue solving, eating, obstacle courses & more. There is no designated swimming but plan on getting wet at some point – think fountains and pools. View a sample course from a previous race for an idea of what this Urban Adventure Race entails. The Full Course (Traditional & Relay division) is designed to travel 20 to 30 miles or 4 to 6 hours on average. The Half Oyster Course is approximately half the mileage and half the time. Some teams get lost, confused, forget to have fun, get a flat tire, end up at a bar, etc all variables may delay teams. Friday, August 17th Saturday, August 18th 6:30 am - Transition Area opens. (Full Course division – please do not arrive any later than 7:15am or you may not be able to race) 8:00 am - The Oyster Urban Adventure Race begins! (Full Course only) 10:00 am - The Half Oyster begins! 11:00 am - The Oyster Shooter begins! 2:30 pm(ish) – After Party begins when a minimum of 75% of teams have completed the course. Enjoy post-race Chipotle burritos, beer, and the awards ceremony during the After Party. Take the time to relax, stretch and share a beer and your stories with other racers!
